According to the 2030 Calculator, the carbon footprint of an olympic gold medal is 708.18 kg CO2e, while the carbon footprint of a silver or bronze medal is 469.42 kg CO2e. In contrast, the carbon footprint of a digital medal is only 0.4g CO2e.
Comparing the carbon impact of 5,000 physical medals (gold, silver, and bronze) would result in 16,811,700 kg of CO2e. In contrast, the carbon footprint of 5,000 digital medals would only be 200g CO2e.
